Elisa Govea

I started practicing yoga in 2005, and I have dedicated my life to learning and teaching this practice ever since. I am a certified Iyengar yoga teacher at the Junior Intermediate II level and continue to develop my knowledge and skills learning from Senior teachers from different countries, but mainly from my teacher in Mexico, Chantal Gomez Jauffred. In 2016 I had the opportunity to study at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute in Puna, India for two months, learning from Geeta, Prashant and Abhijata Iyengar.

I had an interest in the human mind and its nature since a young age which made me approach Philosophy. When I lived in the Caribbean, I was captivated by its beauty and I explored the underwater world as a diving instructor. It was then that I discovered my vocation for teaching. When I found yoga later on, I discovered an individual path toward collective universal wisdom that is available for all those willing to embrace and explore the relationship between the body and the mind

My inquisitiveness led me to explore different types of Yoga. In Iyengar yoga I found such clarity, depth, and sincerity that captivated me, and since 2009 I have dedicated myself to explore this endless source of knowledge through the BKS Iyengar legacy.

I have had the fortune to practice and teach in different parts of the world, beside my birth country Mexico, such as Spain, France, Indonesia and Malaysia. Their cultural perspective and vision of life has enriched my life and practice, as yoga is lived on and off the mat. I currently live in the Canary Islands where I teach regular classes of different levels, yoga workshops focused on promoting good health, and in-depth programs, surrounded by the beauty of the sea, the nature, and the people, living and doing yoga in paradise.
